From advisee to advisor

My first real job was as a PA in a small company, so I ended up being responsible for all HR related tasks with the assistance of an external HR advisory company. I found I really enjoyed the problem solving involved in HR and I ended up going to work for the external HR company and switched to being the one giving HR advice to other companies. It was one of my most important career moves as it gave me exposure to a huge range of HR related issues and scenarios and provided me with essential HR knowledge that I still refer to today. My next important move was when I decided to move to Melbourne for "a 1 year holiday". 6 years and *many* visas later I am now a permanent resident and working in an awesome company with an amazing and supportive team that encourage me to further develop myself everyday! Throughout my time working in HR I have moved through multiple roles including admin, advisory, consultant and strategic business partner and am looking forward to seeing what is next to come.

Supporting our employees globally across a range of HR activities

I support the global business in all HR operational activities such as employee lifecycle activities (like onboarding & offboarding, performance and development), advising on employment legislation/policies & procedures, remuneration & benefits, global mobility (so anything to do with visas/relocations) and also promoting employee wellness and engagement. Essentially I am here to provide both employees and leaders with advice and support in their day to day roles to not only help achieve overall company strategic objectives but to help maintain the amazing culture we have here and continue making PageUp a great place to work!

I have the ability to positively impact employee's working experiences

In my role in Team Talent I have the ability to positively influence change to create a better working environment for our people and I am motivated when I can see my work having a real impact. I like to think of myself as an employee advocate, gathering information about what employees want, what motivates them and keeps them happy and influencing the key decision makers to implement (and maintain) positive changes. That might be rolling out new benefits, promoting wellbeing/work life balance or encouraging career development opportunities. At PageUp we have an amazing feedback culture so our employees make this part easy!

Be adaptable and flexible to change

HR is never boring because every person is unique. No two days are the same in my role and the variety keeps me motivated. Most of the time you can never plan for the conversations you have with employees so be open and be able to adapt depending on how the conversation goes. Be aware that a conversation or situation may not go down the path you envisaged, but be able to change your direction if needed otherwise you will get lost. There is usually no "one size fits all" approach to every situation so you need to be practical and think of the end goal and what is the best outcome in each scenario.
